Traditional Turkish cuisine has own world. And most probably you can taste only one percentage of it, and you’ll want to taste other 99%.
On the other hand, when you want something familiar, you can find them easily. There’re lots of pizza and hamburger restaurants and some of them are franchised of global companies. As you guess, their menus and ingredients of foods can be different; but when you need them, you’ll reach.
Burger King and McDonald’s are popular in there, too. For example, Burger King has more than 200 stores in Istanbul. Gloria Jean’s, Starbucks, Subway, KFC, Domino’s Pizza, and Pizza Hut are other examples. Even if you can’t find their stores, you can find a similar, domestic one.
We have no idea about loyalty of customers’ to Burger King and McDonald’s in Turkey. On the other hand, both of them have too many stores around the country. Especially, you can find their stores in metropolitans, easily. Almost all malls have one of them like in Istanbul, Izmir, Ankara, Antalya and other crowded cities.
All global fast food restaurants are not at the same competition. We’ve to accept that both Burger King and Mc Donald’s are very popular; but there’re different brands as well. Burger King have more than 600 stores in almost all cities in Turkey. There’re also around 250 McDonald’s stores in different cities. When we consider other brands also, there’ll be lots of alternatives for your hamburger.
On the other hand, if you look at for pizzas or coffees, you can find more competition. For example, Gloria Jean’s have stores in 24 cities and it competes with Starbucks, other national brands, and also local ones. It is same for pizza brands and stores, as well.
Global, but also domestic…
Almost all these brands have something special that’s inspired from Turkish cuisine. We suggest you to try them, if you visit these stores. Let’s look at some examples:
Double Köfte (meatball) Burger can be tried in McDonald’s. Demlenmiş Taze Çay (Turkish tea) in Gloria Jean’s, Türk Kahvesi (Turkish coffee) in Starbucks, Kayseri Pastırmalı (pastirma is a kind of traditional cured beef) in Pizza Hut and Sucuksever Pizza (sucuk is a regional, dry and spicy sausage) in Domino’s.
